  • 01/01/2019
  • 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
  • Children's Services Council, 2300 High Ridge Road, Boynton Beach, FL 33426
Dr Cathy Waltz

In addition to 2 hours of Medical Errors, 3 hours of Ethics, Licensed Clinical Social Workers, Licensed Mental Health Counselors and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists are REQUIRED to complete a 3 hour (3 CEU) course updating them on the current Florida Renewal Laws and Rules before March 31, 2019 and every third biennial renewal thereafter. The course reviews all pertinent laws and rules for changes in an effort to aid mental health professionals in avoiding malpractice problems, adhering to license requirements, providing appropriate legal and ethical supervision and protecting clients’ welfare. Participants will be updated on changes to the Laws (F. S. 491 and F. S. 456) and Rules (Chapter 64B4, F.A.C.: Board of Clinical Social Work, Marriage & Therapy & Mental Health Counseling) and issues currently trending related to:

  • Regulation of Professions and Occupations
  • Psychotherapist-Patient Privilege
  • Clinical, Counseling, and Psychotherapy Services
  • Rules of the Board of Clinical Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, and Mental Health Counseling, and
  • Integrating laws and rules with clinical practice through discussion, case examples and vignettes

These are, of course, required CEU's for the re-licensure of LCSW, LMFT, and LMHC professional licenses.  Check with CE Broker to see if this will be important for you.

We are happy to again have Dr Cathy Waltz spending the day with us for a (required) refresher on the laws and rules governing our profession.

The day will consist of:  3 hours Laws and Rules, 2 hours Medical Errors and 3 hours Ethics.  We've had Dr Waltz with us before and she earned some of the highest compliments we've ever gotten.  A fine clinician and an excellent lecturer, she held us in rapt attention for an entire day.

Dr. Catherine Waltz, Ph.D., LCSW has been a Florida licensed clinical social worker since 1990 and based her practice in Ft. Lauderdale.  Her 30+ years of clinical experience in individual and group psychotherapy as well as extensive expertise in domestic violence, hypnosis, and other clinical interventions are indicators of the value she brings to her clients and training sessions.  Her expertise in working with domestic violence victims and perpetrators has led to her becoming a trusted resource on trauma informed services.  She has been training others to work with men who batter for 20+ years including several recurring international training seminars on the subject.

Dr. Waltz is currently serving as an adjunct professor in the School of Social Work at Barry University teaching advanced graduate courses.  She has held a variety of professional administrative positions and supervised many student interns and Registered Interns over the years.  She has developed academic courses and provided professional continuing education training to other mental health professionals for years including a two-day course for Florida mental health professionals who desire to become Florida qualified supervisors for Registered Interns.
