From Shame to Support: Enhancing Clinician Comfort and Competency in Sex Addiction Treatment

Description: Sex addiction, sexual concerns and problematic sexual behaviors are common, yet often overlooked topics in mental health treatment. Many clinicians struggle with comfort and competency when addressing issues related to sex. This presentation will provide an in-depth exploration of sex and porn addiction, including how to define and screen for these concerns in clinical practice. Clinicians will learn to distinguish between sex addiction, problematic sexual behaviors, and inconvenient arousal templates. Additionally, the presentation will cover the cycle of sex addiction and treatment options. An understanding of porn addiction will be provided. This will include consequences, frequency, duration, progression, and content, as well as how shifts in technology have introduced new challenges for individuals and their relationships. In addition, case examples depicting the negative and positive impacts of porn on relationships, will be provided.
